New FrostWire 4.21 series

Welcome to the new 4.21 series. This new family of releases starts off with two big upgrades: Automatic Installer Downloads (via BitTorrent) and the new Vuze Core 4.5.0.4 for even faster BitTorrent downloads.

We also added a new feature for those users that complained about the FrostClick Promotions, If you’re not into supporting independent content creators we understand, and now you can go to the FrostWire Settings and turn the promotions off altogether. You will only see the FrostWire or FrostClick logo which is the default welcome screen of the application.

Getting ready for Android and more

Our Android efforts are well underway by now, the FrostWire App for Android is very usable and it should be getting a “beta” label pretty soon. In the meantime the application has been tested in over 250 cities all over the world (by a few folks on each) and it’s getting ready for showtime.

That means that the next step will be FrostWire for Desktop talking to your Android device. This will be one of the major additions to FrostWire for Desktop 4.21 series. Expect great tools to copy files from/to your Android device via Wi-Fi.

We’re also planning on creating a FrostClick Torrent search service which will be seamlessly integrated into the “Torrent Search” results, making even more legal content available to you.

Among other very delayed ideas, 4.21 might introduce the long promised plugin platform so that you can extend FrostWire in ways we can’t possibly imagine. We know that the p2p network can be used for far more than file sharing [democratic distributed computing, social networking, gaming, and more] and we want to give you the tools to help us deliver new services on top of it. Stay tuned.

  1. QUOTE: “If you’re not into supporting independent content creators we understand, and now you can go to the FrostWire Settings and turn the promotions off altogether. You will only see the FrostWire or FrostClick logo which is the default welcome screen of the application.”

I think it’s great that you guys added such an option, but at the same time I don’t think such an option is really necessary. I’m all for helping promote independant artists, and if the only way to do this through the Frostwire app is with a splash add on the search screen… then I shall leave it enabled.

    1. You rock Dustyn, thanks for leaving it on. Stay tuned for tomorrow, there will be a great new promotion, it’ll be an animated short that will rock your world.

    1. If the .deb won’t install because of the architecture, you can always download and untar the .tar.gz version.

You can also download the sources and build them with ant.

  2. I’ve used free p2p programs before, and they seem to slow computers down a lot. Does Frostwire have a history of allowing viruses through to downloaders?

    1. if you have a good and updated antivirus you should be well protected. FrostWire does it best to keep you off malicious peers, but it’s a never ending fight. If you are using windows you will get viruses in many ways, including emails and malicious websites, the rule of thumb is always to keep your antivirus up to date and watch out before you download or open any file. Usually it’s very easy to tell what’s evil.

With torrent search you should probably be safer since most of the results are curated by reputable torrent indexing services.

  3. is this site protected from viruses?? i was runnin off of limewire nd i ended up gettn my laptop messd up wit a virus…now i hv a new laptop nd lookin for a safe site 2 download music…so be b4 i dwnload this site can u let me kno if this is a good site nd has it had ne problems wit viruses

  4. how come any bit torrents i have tried to download on frostwire show up as aborted? this has worked before, and i just updated frostwire today (11-7-10), but it’s still not working for bit torrents. any help would be appreciated.

  5. I just downloaded frostwire and every file I attempt to download downloads at a speed of just under 4kb. Why is it so incredibly slow?

  6. frostwire does not work for me on mac os 10.5.8
it keeps saying a message in the beginning and the
    it just shuts down

    1. Exactly the same problem with the new version (4.21.2). The old version was fine, but sloooow. Error message states that there is “a fatal internal error ….”

    2. Please download the installer again, we’ve released a fix.
Also make sure your operating System is running by default the latest java version available (Applications > Utilities > Java Preferences)

      1. Applications > Utilities > Java Preferences

Make sure you’re running the latest version of Java possible. You do that by dragging the java versions available with the mouse on the list.
The default version running on your system should be the one on the top of the list.

      2. I’m having the exact same problem; I checked java and am running thet latest available as default.

  7. I have the same problem after downloading and trying to run Frostwire I get the same message saying a internal fatal error has occured. I have downloaded it many times but it doesnt work. I checked my Java like you said in the previous comments and its the latest version. My computer is a Macbook Pro 10.5.8. please help!

  8. Icon on high-DPI Windows desktop looks blurry. When are you going to embed a hi-res icon into the Frostwire main executable? The interface also does not adapt very well to high dpi settings. This is not an issue but annoying as hell.

  9. I’ve been having issues for a while now – I’ve run Frostwire easily since they shut down LW, but when I went to put the latest update on for a different user on my Mac, it started telling me that the install was corrupt. I’ve been trying since Dec 21 to get my Frostwire back. I’ve just been able to download 4.17.2 and had to browse and create a new ‘saved’ folder in the FW folder – make sure you are doing that right off the bat instead of allowing it to ‘use the default’ which doesn’t seem to be properly coded anymore to create that folder. It’s so simple that I’m slapping myself for wasting over a week on it. Once I’ve got it set up I will update and it should work no problem.
    Thanks!

  10. I have been trying to install frostwire 4.21.2 on my mac OS X (10.6.2), the isntaller doesnt even loads! i clik the frostwire icon (setup) and it appears to start loading, because it shows up in my deck up and down as its suposed to, but it disappears as if i closed it or something. I’ve tried 6 times now… please help
I will try the old version, the old version for mac i could find was 4.18.5 but i really want the new one so please help me.
I have no updates available (java-wise). Thank you!

    1. Thank you, Joanna! I tried downloading the latest version of FW for Mac and experienced several internal errors with a fatal error allegedly due to a corrupt download. Tried your idea above, grabbed version 4.18, and made my own save folder and so far so good! Thanks again you saved me a major headache!

  12. i downloaded frost wire and i cant download anything it says the connecting to the network and try when it is fully connected. how long does that take how do i get it to fully connect?

  13. I’m having the same problem that everyone else seems to be having. Gained access to this particular page of the website by typing in the first few lines of the error message that comes up. I’ve installed, deleted, emptied trash, reinstalled, deleted, emptied trash, installed “Uninstallation Software” (AppTrap) to make sure i’m deleting everything including the folder contents all the way. That was AFTER I installed the latest version of java.

The version I’d already had worked perfectly. I checked back after having it for probably 3 or 4 weeks. It notified me that an update was available. I did the update and nothing happened at which point I began surfing the web for answers that eventually led me to this predicament. PLEASE GIVE ME SIMPLE PEOPLE INSTRUCTIONS TO FIX THE PROBLEM! I’ve been up all night the last few nights tinkering with no success.

    1. Sorry, you’ll have to switch to android for now, for way too many reasons that make the development of FrostWire on the iPhone possible.

  17. I’m having same install issues. It prompted me to get the newest version and
    not it says “fatal error”
    what junk
    how disappointing
if anyone knows how to fix please let me know

  18. I am trying find and load frostwire on my older mac os x 10.4.11, but i can not find the frostwire that i am told would work: frostwire 4.13.5 dmg. is there any one out there that can help me

  19. I have a cable modem with a dl speed of 15Megs yet my dl speed on frostwire is 5 or 6kb. THis is rubbish. I cant believe that someone would limit their ul speed to something that low. What’s going on?
