We’ve been busy cleaning, refactoring and modernizing our code base for a next generation 64bit Java Runtime.

We’ve been able to successfully migrate from Java 8 (32bit), to the bleeding edge Java 12 for 64bit Intel CPUs.

That means support for VERY LARGE file downloads and access to up to 512GB of RAM on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit if you ever needed that much memory to run FrostWire.

Everything looks great on our end but we need testers with different macOS and Windows configurations (minimum supported is Windows 7, 64bit) to let us know if there are any edge cases we haven’t tested.

Changelog

frostwire (6.8.0) stable; urgency=high

  • Soundcloud search and downloads fixed
  • OpenJDK 12 runtime (windows)
  • G+ cleanup
  • Hundreds of cleanups and fixes to modernize the codebase for Java 12

  1. I have Windows 10 Pro (32 bit) and it will not install the latest FrostWire version . Error says pc will not run on pc, find version with the software publisher. Any help on this?

    1. Hi, you will need to stay on version 6.7.9 until you get a 64-bit computer, we have discontinued 32-bit support.

you can download the last 32-bit compatible version here https://github.com/frostwire/frostwire/releases/download/frostwire-desktop-6.7.9-build-277/frostwire-6.7.9.windows.github.exe (and ignore update messages, those will only work for 64-bit computers, as stated in the update messages), your search experience will degrade as the months pass by since you won’t be able to update ant further. Sorry for the inconvenience but the software ecosystem is pushing us forward to be able to keep up.
