FrostWire 4.17.2 for MacOSX

Download FrostWire 4.17.2 for MacOSX

This release for MacOSX includes some of the fixes added to Windows 4.17.2 release but it’s aimed mostly to solve some incompatibilities found on the new Macbooks and Macbook PROs.

Some Mac users had reported that FrostWire 4.17.1 would not start , we revised the previous launcher and fixed possible errors and updated the Mac OSX native libraries for improved Leopard compatibility. Also FrostWire will now refuse to be executed from the Disk Image (DMG), teaching some newly mac-converted users how they should install the application.

  1. What happend to the SLACKWARE version of frostwire???.
All i see are other types –ie Mac Win Ubuntu. Why was the slackware version omitted on the new website?…

I see DMG ,EXE,DEB –I NEED THE SLACKWARE VERSION!!!

  2. Strange limitation for the DMG… Why do not just advise rather than impose your choice ?
Moreover, the test code is bad :
“if(s.startsWith(“/Valumes”))” : if FrostWire is on an external volume, the application will refuse to launch too, even if it is not on a DMG volume.

So, users to kill this limitation, edit the file (with a hexa editor) “FrostWireLauncher.class” in the FrostWire bundle, search for the string “/Volumes” and change it with something else of the same size (by example “/Valumes”)

Many users would try to double click the installer right there on the DMG. When it runs for the first time, it needs to decompress, and the DMG can’t hold the decompressed folder, therefore we got hundreds of complains. I guess we can make our check better than s.startsWith(“/Volumes”) to check for the path to the dmg… so that we don’t hurt those trying to put frostwire on a external drive (did not think of that, my bad)

      Thanks for this comment

  3. @JP:

Launcher class code fixed. I’ve tested a new DMG on my development machine, I dragged it to an external flash drive and ran from there without problems thanks to your advice. This will be included on our next installer.

    Here’s the diff:
