As of September 18th, 2018, the FrostWire Android app has been taken down from Google Play due to a DMCA take down request.
We have submitted a counter DMCA notice immediately after receiving the DMCA notification and learning that our app was suspended. In the notice, the company claimed their content was uploaded to the FrostWire app and provided screenshots of their content being played in the FrostWire Music Player.
Asking for reinstatement, we made it clear that it is technically impossible to upload any content to FrostWire. We explained that FrostWire is a tool, a BitTorrent client, a downloader for a distributed peer-to-peer network and that as such, it does not host, index, nor has the ability to control the content it is technically capable of downloading from third party sources.
We have appealed with Google and were denied the reinstatement.
We are dumbfounded that an unsubstantiated claim from one company can so easily remove an app that’s totally legal, has millions of users, 4+ star rating and almost 8 years on the Google Play store.
With over 80% of our user-base running on the Android platform, in a world where the majority of android installs occurs through a centralized app store monopoly, we don’t see a viable path forward. After 14 years the team is ready to move on to other passions and challenges.
We want to take this opportunity and thank our users for the support and kind words we’ve received over the last few days and invite everyone to update their Android and Desktop apps directly from our Github repository or from the project’s SourceForge page.
We hope that in the end, a free, uncensored and decentralized internet will prevail.

Sad to see you guys go does this mean if you already have the app on your android it wont work properly because I’m only getting a few search results now
Awe. This was the best audio and video downloader. If only the app was here just a little longer. Frostwire was the only app that let me download free audios and free HD videos. This app was nothing like any other app. Rest in peace to the most helpful app in the world.
Google needs to put this back on, it’s the best app for music, so livid right now trying to stay civil an hold my tongue for what I really want to say
just because google will not host it does not mean you cant continue to run you can host frostwire from your site or torrent sites and instruct users to root or allow side loading apps
the installers will remain available, but without the influx of users from google play we can no longer pay the bills to keep developing and fixing the app like we used to.

no, frostwire is a bittorrent downloader, what you downloaded to your device stays in your device unless you delete it.
Don’t uninstall it, there was a notice about that and losing content
Just a thought have you asked all you users to send their feedback to Google play that use your site I would think after the thousands of replays they get they would look at this issue again just a thought. From a long time frostwire user thank you for many years of great service .

I loved FROSTWIRE. THIS IS BULLSHIT. FUCK GOOGLE, FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE ECT. THERE TAKING DOWN ALOT OF PAGES ECT. EXAMPLE, ALEX JONES INFO WARS AND MANY OTHERS ARE TAKEN OUT AND NOW FROSTWIRE. TRY SOMETHING ELSE GUYS FROSTWIRE 2.0 OR SOMETHING ANOTHER NAME.
I am really very sorry to hear this! I’ve been using FrostWire for years and it is one of the best music downloaders I’ve ever had. I wonder what this means as far as the app I have on my phone. Obviously I will not be able to do any updates, but will I still be able to use the app as long as it’s on my phone?
yes, the beauty of p2p is that the app will continue working for years as long as the bittorrent protocol keep backwards compatibility

Wow. Spoken so well. So first off, I need to say that I NEVER place comments on pages I frequently visit so this is definitely a rarity for me. But I felt the need to express just how much something as simple as a peer-to-peer sharing app named Frostwire played a MAJOR role in my fucked up life. For someone like me, where music is my passion, soothes my soul, and saves my life on a daily basis, and who involuntarily dances with their favorite poison, sadly and painfully, everyday to a point where they barely have the means to feed themself and pay rent (let alone go buy a new CD everytime a band thats liked releases a new album), without people like you who make apps like yours, I NEVER would have made it without the ?0g of music that I have. So from all of us, the music junkies everywhere, I thank you for being a part of one of the few things that helped saved my life. Your efforts definitely have not gone unnoticed, nor will they be forgotten. I will forever be grateful for what you guys have made. Thank you.
Awe, I am so saddened by this. And pissed cause there is NOT another music downloader that has every song and when you download it it is the real song. I’m sorry this had happened to you guys. I’ve been using this app for years and it has always work fabulous for me.
