John Graham: Success In Retrograde – featured on FrostWire

By Valerie

Download Album

One exciting hip hop artist to watch out for, John Graham rolls out licks and rhymes that create a different kind of sound. He doesn’t only have that rare talent but he’s also bringing hip hop back to its roots all while incorporating a positive vibe.

The man behind Ego Free Productions, John runs the company along with his partner, Amir. According to the singer, the company name was appropriate for the singer’s brand of sound since he provides music that’s “filled with positive messages meant to inspire growth and insight change.”

Success in Retrogade EP is an amazing record complete with 7 tracks. Each song carries a special message that you won’t normally expect or associate with the genre.
Originally from the Bay Area in California, John moved to Philadelphia by the time he was in college to attend Lincoln University. Majoring in Education, it was this move that helped to introduce him to several influential MCs and eventually foster his passion for music.

According to his bio, John isn’t interested in the fame or being labeled the next big thing in hip hop music. His primary goal is simply to put forth his sound and have his music serve as a gateway for opening a “dialogue between all races, cultures, political affiliations, and beyond as we all face issues that supersede any of the things that keep us divided.”

Some of the songs talk about fame and the hip hop lifestyle while others mostly express the artist’s viewpoint on life. For instance, Modus Operandi is a thought provoking song that narrates the rapper’s two cents about music. Complete with a steady and catchy beat, the single tackles the common assumptions people have about music. Promoting music with a more substance than “bling,” the singer definitely hits the point home. Veterans of Foreign War is another track that delivers a statement, as it gives props to the many veterans of war. On the other hand, The Top 1% peels back the skins of hip hop artists and celebrities. It talks about how “entertainers and athletes are paid millions of dollars to keep the masses engaged in fantasy.”

The last two tracks feature Esha J. and showcases a slower, more R&B feel in places. John’s rapping is more laid-back and are somewhat more personal. Overall, the album is definitely worth checking out. One of the few hip hop compilations that step out and take a stand. You can hit the download button above and start enjoying.

Carsie Blanton: Idiot Heart featured on FrostWire

Download Torrent

Post By Mona from FrostClick.com

We just can’t get enough of Carsie Blanton‘s sweet music. Her new album, Idiot Heart is like a tasteful dessert that melts in your mouth.

The Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter flawlessly blends country and pop music in this ten-track release. Compared to her first album Buoy, Idiot Heart offers a more upbeat vibe.

Blanton’s passion and conviction to her music shines through in this collection. Smoke Alarm immediately charms the listener with funky guitar strings. Her soulful voice is a perfect contrast to the upbeat rhythm.

Together Too Long keeps one foot, or at least a couple toes, in the pop machine. This tasteful track reveals bouncy harmonies and the sensibility of a modern woman.

Unleashing some surprisingly jazzy tunes, Backseat flirts like a teenage love affair. The singer’s approach to songwriting is a product of the transparent times. The verses are not so poetically deep but manages to touch a bigger audience.

Little Death reveals a sensitive issue about violence. The lines such as “he hit her like an avalanche/he hit her like the plague” are chill-inducing. It’s an acoustic lullaby that delves on a heavier subject.

Title track Idiot Heart goes back to the upbeat folk sensibility. Accompanied by a pinch of strings and ukulele, she delivers a lovely track that’s full of energy and hipness.

Conquering the slower territory, Honest Truth is a gentle closing piece that digs up about painful love.

Idiot Heart hooks the listeners with an honest, innocent and raw confession on love. Blanton lays claim to emotional wounds and regrets, turning them into bittersweet melodies.

All in all, Carsie Blanton has crafted a rock-solid album that’s not afraid to touch a softer spot.

New FrostWire 5.3. Easier, Nicer, Better.

Here’s what’s coming on the next update.

FrostWire's new search now with hints (powered by Google's frequent searches)
Better search results and usability Users coming from FrostWire 4 have complained about ease of use and search results. We’ve made our search algorithm more powerful and our user interface friendlier so that you won’t get lost finding the files that you need. We’re bringing a bit of the FrostWire 4 feel to the search form and you’ll have even more control of the search results you see as they are retrieved.

Now you will be able to choose exactly what file types you're interested in

Send files and folders to friends, no size limits, no ads, no third parties involved. And the more friends you send, the better it gets.Sending files to friends. No need to upload your files to sketchy websites that are a pain in the ass for your friend to find the download button among so many ads. Not only you can send files as big as your computer can hold, you can also send entire folders and subfolders. The more friends you send your files, the faster they get it because they collaborate. You and your friends make a little cloud when sending files to each other with FrostWire.

Mobile Integration You can now browse, stream or download the files made public by Android devices nearby. Best part, no cables necessary. Samsung users on Mac will love this, as we’ve experienced impossible to fix issues with the Galaxy Tab 10″ which just won’t share files even with the Kies app that Samsung provides.

Screenshot of FrostWire 5 streaming from an Android Tablet

FrostWire for Android implements an open, simple, HTTP/JSON based file sharing protocol that ANYBODY can work with, so we hope to see Web developers, and why not even iOS developers making clients that can talk to FrostWire for Desktop and FrostWire for Android. And if nobody builds them we’re trying to free some time later in the year to make a light version of FrostWire for iPhone/iPod/iPad so that you can send files from your iOS device to your PC, Mac, Linux or Android devices, all wirelessly (no need for USB and iPhoto, no need to cut your videos or to downgrade their quality to upload them to youtube if all you want is to send that HD video to your mom’s)

Make over

New Fueled skin appears on FrostWire 5.3.0. The screenshot shows a new application header, with the media player present at all times and a lot more polish with respect to custom made icons and backgrounds, textures. More to come.

Those and a lot of other features and fixes are ready. If you cannot wait to try these, you can always download the sources and build FrostWire yourself in two steps (ant; ./run)

Screenshot of featured content on an Android Smartphone

All content creators featured on FrostWire for Desktop will now reach the FrostWire for Android user base.

Before the old FrostWire for Android was taken out of the Android market it had already surpassed a million installs, and over 250,000 daily active users.

We don’t know at this point how many people still have it installed, but it’s well over 100k users that will get the update message guaranteed when the new release is out.

FrostWire for Android will be a great channel for independent content creators to reach worldwide audiences wherever they are via BitTorrent.

If you are a content creator (Musician, Film Maker, Writer, Software Developer, Photographer) willing to share content under Creative Commons or some form of free license contact the FrostClick Team now, promotions are absolutely free, but only world class quality content will be accepted.

Here are a few screenshots of how it’s like to get your featured content on FrostWire for Android.

First touch promotional graphic, FrostWire will ask you for confirmation before starting a download and shows how much space this will take locally after it’s done.

The download starts, details about progress, the number of seeds and peer connected to us are shown in real time.

You can expand to see individual file download progress for that transfer if the transfer contains more than 1 file.

You can cancel or pause (resume) the transfer anytime.

After the download is done, files will be on your “Library”, browse your audio files, hit Play. By default finished downloads will be PRIVATE (but you can configure all your downloads to be automatically public on the local WiFi network). If you make your files public, friends running FrostWire for Android, or FrostWire +5.2.12 will be able to stream your files or download them from your phone. On the screenshot below, we’ve made the song “Around the World” by No Way Josie public on the WiFi network.

And this is how it looks on the audio player (accesible through the Android notification pane)

Update (February 2012)
Get it now from the Android Market or Download the APK

FrostWire for Android is back, and currently under a rigorous beta testing period before we release it back into the Android Markets.

As promised, FrostWire for Android is now open source. Android Hackers welcome for patch submissions.

We’re on TorrentFreak!!

TorrentFreak.com writes today:

“While the major record labels see BitTorrent as a threat, thousands of independent musicians believe it’s one of the best ways to gain an audience. The FrostWire BitTorrent client has been promoting independent artists for years, with great success. To celebrate a massive 2.4 million downloads in 2011, FrostWire just released a compilation album featuring free Creative Commons-licensed tracks from 30 artists.

With all the negative talk about BitTorrent, fueled by the billion dollar entertainment industries, it’s refreshing to see that many of the people who actually create the music are using it to further their careers.

Tens of thousands of musicians, from those just starting out to those already established, use BitTorrent to give away their music for free.

One of the BitTorrent clients that helps these artists to get noticed is FrostWire. In 2008, the client introduced its FrostClick service through which it promotes independent artists, and not without success.

With help from FrostWire, independent musicians reach a bigger audience than many of the artists signed by major labels. In the last year alone, 2.4 million people downloaded the albums promoted by FrostWire, and according to the artists who were featured, it pays off.

“FrostWire jumpstarted my music career by giving away my album for free to over 130,000 people,” says female rapper Kellee Maize in a comment. “Paying for that type of exposure would have cost me over $50,000 on other outlets such as taking out Facebook ads or Google Adsense.”
