FrostWire is #15 on Download.com!!!

For the 3rd week in a row we’re on the Top 20 of download.com and going up.
Last week on position #19, now we went up to #15!!!

Thanks so much for downloading, we’re working hard on the next version, coming out very soon.

FrostWire hits the CNET Top 20

This feels like graduating or something similar. I can’t believe our grassroot efforts after about a year of work has gone so far, far enough to make it to the Top 20 most popular software on download.com

I guess we can only thank all the users and all the people that have helped spread the word, since this is 100% the work of word of mouth, bloggers and tech writers that mention us for one reason or the other.

Thanks, we can only feel like releasing more and more FrostWire versions for you in the near future to see if we can get on the top 10 now.

FrostWire 4.13.3 is Leopard Compatible

I went yesterday to the Apple Store in SoHO to try FrostWire in Leopard, I managed to install it and run a few tests and it seems to work without a glitch.

If you have Leopard and now your FrostWire copy gives you problems you didn’t have with tiger, please write us at contact@frostwire.com

Please remember that if you are in the US, you can support FrostWire by getting yourself a tshirt at shop.frostwire.com

How to solve the libapr_tsvn.dll crash (Crash on Startup)

It seems there is some kind of conflict between the Java Virtual Machine and Tortoise SVN, this is the reason why FrostWire may be crashing on you lately.
We’ve found a solution by overriding some of the launch parameters. All you have to do is create a new file called launch.properties right next to your FrostWire.exe (Usually at c:\Program Files\FrostWire)

The file should contain the following, and the application will launch, and you won’t have to remove Tortoise SVN

-Xms32m
-Xminf0.10
-Xmaxf0.25
-Xmx128m
-Dorg.apache.commons.logging.Log=org.apache.commons.logging.impl.NoOpLog
-Djava.net.preferIPv6Addresses=false
-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
-ea
-jar

FrostWire 4.13.3 Changelog

Thanks to our community and especially to Micheal K. aka “Only A Hobo” for his continued help on the forums, supporting the community, and also for reporting the early problems with the LimeWire Update messages appearing on FrostWire.

We took a while for this fix because we decided to implement our own FrostWire Update System and not just silence the LimeWire messages. This way after 4.13.3, everytime we release a new version, everybody on the network will know about new updates.

Changes for 4.13.3 include:

  • New Update Manager. Also allows delivery of special announcements to the community. And no, we won’t use this feature for spam, only for special announcements to the community, or special downloads.
  • The Update Manager supports the delivery of torrent broadcasting to all the FrostWire community. This will allow us to lower bandwidth costs if we decide to distribute an upload using bittorrent trackers.
  • FrostWire startup time back to normal, no more waiting for Chat window to load, the chat is now loaded on a background thread

As of 4.13.3, we are proud to announce that we’re now partners with IAC Search & Media (Ask.com/AskJeeves) on the distribution of the free Ask Toolbar. The success of this relationship will ensure the perpetual continuity of FrostWire’s absolutely free Peer-2-Peer tool and also improve the evolutionary technology behind it.

Thank you!

FrostWire T-Shirt Prototype, “You Like?!?!?”

We’ve been asking for a while to the community about FrostWire T-shirts and FrostWire Merchandise.

What do you guys think about this design?

Would you support FrostWire by getting one of these?
Your feedback is important, if enough people are willing to get them, we can make more for less money and you can also help us by wearing them on the street and making all your friends jealous so they have to get one too 🙂

It’s too early to let you know about pricing, we need to hear your thoughts on them first.
