Since FrostWire 6.3.1 you can select how to show the transfers screen: as an individual tab or together below the search results in split view. On this post, you will learn how to use this new option.

FrostWire’s improved Magnet URI support (BEP 0009)

As of FrostWire +6.3.0 for Desktop, and FrostWire +1.7.4 for Android, all FrostWire clients can now interpret the new peer= parameter

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:<info-hash>&dn=<name>&tr=<tracker-url>&peer=<peer-address>

Where <peer-address>…

<peer-address>A peer address expressed as hostname:port, ipv4-literal:port or [ipv6-literal]:port. This parameter can be included to initiate a direct metadata transfer between two clients while reducing the need for external peer sources. It should only be included if the client can discover its public IP address and determine its reachability. Note: Since no URI scheme identifier has been allocated for bittorrent xs= is not used for this purpose.

The immediate result of being able to pass and receive this parameter on magnet addresses is that FrostWire will try to include as many ip:port available it can find so that others can connect to your peer, try sharing files on your local Wi-Fi network now, vs doing the same on older networks.

We don’t know if other BitTorrent clients already support this parameter, therefore we suggest that when sharing Magnets from your computer, you tell the other party to use a new version of FrostWire and you’ll have a greater chance of connecting right away.

Watch a Short Film About The Existential Journey of a Plastic Bag!

Plastic Bag is a short film by American director Ramin Bahrani that traces the epic, existential journey of a plastic bag (voiced by Werner Herzog) searching for its lost maker, the woman who took it home from the store and eventually discarded it. Along the way, it encounters strange creatures, experiences love in the sky, grieves the loss of its beloved maker, and tries to grasp its purpose in the world.

Plastic Bag is considered one of the best short films of all times. We loved it not only because is very well filmed, with a spectacular photograph, but its theme allows to think about our time.

Also, the film features the voice of the amazing German filmmaker Werner Herzog and an original score by Kjartan Sveinsson of the Icelandic rock band Sigur Rós.

According to OpenCulturePlastic Bag was one of 11 films released in the Internet Television Service’s “Futurestates” film series exploring “what life might look like in an America of the future.”

Three Alternative Rock Bands That You’re Going to Love!

If you love rock music, we are sure that you want to discover new bands to add to your music library. Today, we want to share three amazing alternative rock bands that had been reviewed on our partner site FrostClick.com

  1. Great Awakening: Figure It Out

Figure It Out promises a lot of potential for Great Awakening. Though it may seem short, the collection encapsulates the duo’s craftsmanship as well as its boldness to experiment territories beyond the normal black and white.
  2. The Bourgeois

The Bourgeois‘ self-titled album dresses itself with the signature characteristics of punk garage, but also finds refuge in the subdued layers of slow rock.
  3. HolySexyBastards

Jack White evolved the dusty blues into something that teenagers, hipsters, selected ears, could listen and enjoy.
Countless bands, very successful and famous ones (insert The Black Keys here) and not that famous ones all over the world, were influenced by him. HolySexyBastards is one of them.
This is a Venezuela born, Canada based band and they can hit you like a 350 truck going at full speed.

Fun fact about this release

This is the first time in 9 to 10 years the whole FrostWire team works on a build in the same physical place (for one day at least in Miami a couple of weeks ago)

Content Decentralization for a healthier, freer, uncensored Internet

Lot’s of work went into it from multiple world cities (Miami, Denver, Santiago-Chile, Warsaw-Poland) it’s a decentralized project after all… and starting this release we’ll be putting a lot more emphasis on being able to seed files with ease.
We feel the internet’s content is becoming way too centralized by cloud providers, and this goes against the DNA of the Internet which is decentralization and file sharing.

So Let’s Seed

A blog post and newsletter will be released explaining in detail all the features and updates of this new release, we hope you enjoy it.

5 Funk Music Bands That You Must Listen To Today!

As you know, Funk is a music genre that originated in the mid- to late 1960s when African American musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of soul music, jazz, and rhythm and blues.

Today, we want to share with you a 5 amazing funk music bands that you must listen to! These bands share their music using the Creative Commons license.

  1. Moe Shop

    me-shop
Moe Shop gives a certain spin to the Future Funk world. It has a very energetic vibe, leaning towards the Future side of the genre. It almost has sounds similar to J-Pop, but those kicks and snares are still laid over funk samples that will make you dance like you’re in an animated music video.

  2. Lawrence

    lawrence-breakfast-2
Lawrence is an eight-piece soul powerhouse from New York City. Led by the talented sibling vocal duo Clyde Lawrence and Gracie Lawrence, produced by Grammy Award winning producer Eric Kranso, and influenced by old school and new school giants, Lawrence presents a beautiful LP of dynamic vocals, powerful horns, and soulful grooves. As their first and maybe most important album, they’ve rightfully called this releaseBreakfast. We’ve found a sampling of some of the delicious tracks on the album.

  3. Shoos Off

    shoosoff
LA-based group Shoos Off injects some funk into your day with Most Times EP. The album features five tracks that oozes with musings of pop, hip hop and r&b as well as a dash of eccentricity by using a wide range of instruments with a sense of control.

  4. Saint Pepsi

Ride and curl along waves of luscious ecojam funk in Hit Vibes by Saint Pepsi aka Ryan DeRobertis. Teeming with thirteen tracks, this album will get you moving through it’s creative experimentation on fresh hip grooves.
  5. Bonnie Bordeaux

    bonnie bordeaux
Taking a share of the delicious musical pie is newcomer Bonnie Bordeaux (even her name sounds super gorgeous), who’s bringing her own iteration of funk by tastefully concocting it with 40’s style of jazz and soul. The result? A stunning 7-track debut masterpiece that we’ll simply refer to as The Damsel Diaries.
