FrostWire 5.3.9 helps trackers save bandwidth

Download FrostWire here

Updating to FrostWire 5.3.9 will help the BitTorrent network as a whole to perform a lot better.

A few weeks ago some of the major trackers went offline on strike to get the attention of the BitTorrent community, their goal was to get everyone to understand a problem that was causing trackers to loose a lot of money in bandwidth costs thanks to old or mislabeled torrents that were still pointing to HTTP tracking addresses.

HTTP traffic is a lot more verbose than the UDP traffic that occurs between BtiTorrent trackers and trackers.

Now FrostWire has implemented a BitTorrent protocol extension that allows all FrostWire clients to check a TXT DNS record that will let all BitTorrent clients know if they should override the torrent announcement url to use UDP instead of the old HTTP addresses stored in older .torrent files.

Before FrostWire attempts to connect to the tracker URL, it’ll first check that DNS configuration to see what the wishes of the tracker administrator are, now tracker admins can override the behavior of all FrostWire clients and FrostWire could potentially ignore the HTTP based handshake and perform the handshake in UDP saving tracker operators a great deal of bandwidth costs.

Update now and make the BitTorrent network better

FrostWire’s Gesture-based audio player. Keep your eyes on the road #android #bittorrent

If you use your Android device as your car music player and you have nobody next to you it’s always dangerous to take your eyes away from the road to unlock the phone, tilt it the right way and eventually find the “Skip” button to change the song.

We decided to fix this issue by making the FrostWire audio player driver friendly.

When you are playing music on FrostWire it will prevent your Android from locking so it can receive gesture input during playback (the screen will go off but it will still receive input).

Gestures supported
It’s very simple, swipe to the sides to change the song, or swipe down with two fingers to pause/resume playback.

Get it now!
It’s absolutely free, you can get it on Google Play or you download it from our website

Look at how FrostClick featured artists will now make it to your pocket via BitTorrent, no matter where you are

Screenshot of featured content on an Android Smartphone

All content creators featured on FrostWire for Desktop will now reach the FrostWire for Android user base.

Before the old FrostWire for Android was taken out of the Android market it had already surpassed a million installs, and over 250,000 daily active users.

We don’t know at this point how many people still have it installed, but it’s well over 100k users that will get the update message guaranteed when the new release is out.

FrostWire for Android will be a great channel for independent content creators to reach worldwide audiences wherever they are via BitTorrent.

If you are a content creator (Musician, Film Maker, Writer, Software Developer, Photographer) willing to share content under Creative Commons or some form of free license contact the FrostClick Team now, promotions are absolutely free, but only world class quality content will be accepted.

Here are a few screenshots of how it’s like to get your featured content on FrostWire for Android.

First touch promotional graphic, FrostWire will ask you for confirmation before starting a download and shows how much space this will take locally after it’s done.

The download starts, details about progress, the number of seeds and peer connected to us are shown in real time.

You can expand to see individual file download progress for that transfer if the transfer contains more than 1 file.

You can cancel or pause (resume) the transfer anytime.

After the download is done, files will be on your “Library”, browse your audio files, hit Play. By default finished downloads will be PRIVATE (but you can configure all your downloads to be automatically public on the local WiFi network). If you make your files public, friends running FrostWire for Android, or FrostWire +5.2.12 will be able to stream your files or download them from your phone. On the screenshot below, we’ve made the song “Around the World” by No Way Josie public on the WiFi network.

And this is how it looks on the audio player (accesible through the Android notification pane)

Vanatei featured on FrostWire

By Valerie

Download Album

Before this you might not have heard of Vanatei [Va-neeh-tee], and after, you’ll either find your next favorite female rapper or move on to find somebody else. I’m not exactly big on female rappers myself, but the few that I’ve discovered I actually really liked. One of the latest female MCs I’ve come across is Vanatei.

This spunky girl from Newark, New Jersey is not just a rapper but also an advertising guru. [She set up and manages her own advertising business.] Her skills as a rapper is something to rave about as well, with her album Dis Bish Got Moola, showcasing her knack for creating catchy beats while spitting out stark lyrics and producing good rhythm.  Continue reading “Vanatei featured on FrostWire”

New FrostWire 5.2.11 – Best Search Performance ever and new Internet Radio support on the Library

Download it now, absolutely free

Huge huge huge improvements in search performance
If there’s a file indexed by a torrent, no matter how rare it is, it should be able to find it for you.
Not only that, search results for individual files (indexed inside torrent) arrive noticeably faster.

New: Internet Radio
Added new Internet Radio support on the Library tab.

FrostWire is pre-loaded with nearly 600 radio stations out of the box, you can add new stations, bookmark them and sort them by name, url, bit rate, audio file format, and more.

*User Experience Improvements*
We listened to all your user experience complains, being the most important one finding out where your finished downloads were going.

Now when you finish a transfer, you can just double click on it, and all the files downloaded will be shown on the Library tab.

If a transfer contains audio files, you can select it (along with other transfer that also contain audio files) and with the context menu you can send all the included audio files straight to a new playlist or an existing playlist on the library.

Become a beta tester
Thanks to the beta tester community for the patience and a big applause for the developer team, I think this is truly the best release ever.

AUCAN “Black Rainbow” featured on FrostWire

Piece written by Valerie.

Brewing on the underground European scene for some time now, Aucan are finally gearing up to make themselves heard. This trio has shared the stage with some of the several notable performers like Placebo, Tricky, Steve Aoki, Antipop, Dinosaur Jr. and so much more. They’ve even played more than 300 gigs in various venues all across Europe.

Mixing ambient dubstep with some generous helping of electronic triphop; Aucan is one of those bands that capture your attention from the moment you take a listen.

Black Rainbow is the third release from the group and features a more refined yet still very catchy hypnotic electronic dub.

Their previous releases include DNA EP (2010) which was a bit more darker compared to their first self-titled release. In Black Rainbow, the boys go deeper into electronica while infusing hip hop and trippy dub into the mix.

Opening track, Blurred (Extended Version,) features the hauntingly sweet voiced singer, Angela Kinczly. As opening track, it can be a bit misleading for fans who expect the rest of the compilation to exude a Sneaker Pimps/Portishead electronic pop after hearing this first cut. The rest of the compilation is actually much heavier and lean more on ambient dub with a rock alternative edge. If anything, the first 2 or 3 songs are the closest you’ll find electronic pop in the record, the rest is pure rocking, bass-thumping goodness.

Cuts like Storm and Embarque take you into a deeper, experimental route. These two songs also stand on opposite sides of the poles. Storm features heavy bass and a synth trippy beat while Embarque, is exclusively composed of melodic acoustic, low key stringed instruments. Both of the songs have their own feel and the clever mix of instruments, various bits as well as beats are quite easy to get lost in.

Although the entire album is a haven of pure triphop, electronica (even melodic) pop, it’s the wonderful and dark corners of the record that seals the deal for me. Away! is among my favorite tracks. When I first heard it, I immediately thought of Asian Dub Foundation during their Fortress Europe rein, only to find out in the liner notes that they indeed have a former member of ADF, Spex MC, help them out with the cut.

Overall, this is one album that’s definitely made its way to my favorites list this year. It has a little something to satisfy different music lovers’ taste, from a pop, hip hop to pure electronica and dub; Black Rainbow is certainly a record that deserves attention. Take a listen.

FrostWire “Torrent Joint” v4.20.9 Released – (Now powered by Vuze Technology)

The Internet – Team FrostWire – Last Update July 3rd 2010

The FrostWire team is constantly on top of the P2P & file sharing news striving to keep the application on the edge of technological developments. We have always had a clear vision of where things are headed in our little part of the Internet and we’re proud to be a part of community that can adapt to changes very quickly.

In 2009 we saw a lot of talk about and many changes ocurrying to the most popular torrent tracker websites. We also observed an increase in general usage and understanding of the underlying technology and it’s benefits. Until now, FrostWire used legacy LimeWire technology to support torrent downloads and was able to decently serve our community torrent needs. We thought that decent was not enough.

Now FrostWire’s BitTorrent engine has been entirely replaced and features all the power of a lightweight version of the Azureus BitTorrent Core under the hood.

Not only all the prior issues our users reported with torrents are gone, but downloading torrents with FrostWire is faster than ever. Torrent Bootstrapping has also significantly improved and in some cases the average download speeds are even 3x faster than with our previous torrent technology.

The introduction of gnutella based .torrent file search with our last release clearly stated our direction, a truly decentralized P2P network with the best of the BitTorrent and Gnutella networks.

BitTorrent Magnet Links Support
The new version of FrostWire also supports BitTorrent Magnets, meaning you only need to get special URL (no initial file downloads necessary) and FrostWire will fetch the Torrent Metadata on the P2P network (using the Azureus DHT technology).

.torrents can survive also in Gnutella
Now, not only will .torrent files survive in the Gnutella network, but they will be fully searchable [in gnutella] and ready to aid in BitTorrent downloads may those torrents ever be removed from web based indexing services.

Every member of the file sharing community will be able to share both the .torrent files as well as the actual content files allowing for the BitTorrent traffic to be fully de-centralized, thanks to Gnutella search and the BitTorrent DHT.

Get high on the BitTorrent DHT with FrostWire “Torrent Joint” version 4.20.1 and update your client now.

Other User Experience Updates
If you’re not getting enough search results from your peers, or you are seeing too many spam and fake results, it’s a good idea to Refresh your connections. FrostWire will fetch a list of healthy and recently crawled ultrapeers willing to take more peers.

Our community members repeatedly told us that the percentage indicator for download progress was not enough, so we added a new column that shows the progress of the download in bytes. Thanks for your feedback.
