FrostWire needs a logo ($50 bounty)

As we come closer to our next release, we know FrostWire still doesn’t have an iconic logo which people can easily identify.

After months of looking for an image, we came across a few pictures of Frozen Barbed Wires.

We think a simple 2D logo, much in the style of napster (easy to print and easy to recognize anywhere) is what we need stylewise.

Picture this:

or this:

(these images are JUST TO ILLUSTRATE that we want a Barbed Wire, or Frozen Barbed Wire [if its possible to illustrate this] as our Logo, may the best Frozen Barbed Wire illustration win)

with this style:

If you’re interested in getting the $50, you’ll need to have a paypal account so we can pay you the bounty.

If you don’t care about the money you can still submit your sketches.

Please submit your proposals either on the official FrostWire Forum or here.

The winner will have his name and a link to his portfolio website (if he/she has any) on the FrostWire credits, and we’ll make a lot of fuss about the new logo, that’s for sure.

WARNING: No 3D logos please. And If you do something in 3D don’t exagerate, think of how easy would it be to print this logo anywhere. Would it be as easy to print as the Napster Logo? Think simple, containable within a circle or squared area so that we can place it anywhere next to the FrostWire word. If your logo has no letters much better, we want to be able to be identified without any letters.

Wake me up when we’re at E3

Since we know some of you out there like video games, and you’re probably drewling over what’s happening at the E3 this year, I thought you might want to see this if you have time to unstress.Don’t miss it. You’ll need a flash player installed to see it though.

Revamped Community Section

Today we’ve released a better version of frostwire.com’s community. We’ve simplified the navigation menu, the link to this blog, and the links to the forums and blog were moved inside the community section.

Also, we’ve included something we’ve been working on for about two weeks, a chatroom client (and server) for you. It runs on our very own irc server at:

irc.peercommons.net

Feel free to enter the chatroom using the webpage applet (courtesy of our very own alkalinex) or your favorite IRC client to jump in and have fun with other FrostWire users. It’s a great way to get quick answers to your doubts, technical questions and meet people from all over the world, you should give it a try now!

As a geek note, we’re proud to say that our IRC server runs on a very humble machine and all the magic happens thanks to Linux Debian, it’s amazing what Debian can do with 200Mhz of CPU and only 32mbs of ram. Saying this, we remind you donations are more than welcome if you want to help us support this project, we’ll be able to do a lot more with better hardware.

Now that the site is on its way, we’ll be working on internationalization to help people all over the world use FrostWire, also now that our repository is finally working on subversion we’ll start working much more on improvements to the software.

Stay tuned.
Enjoy.

Subversion! Subversion! Subversion!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I’m so thrilled, we just found out the Sourceforge people finally answered our support ticket for the subversion import, (and we were right, we rock), it was due to our 953mb cvs repository being too big and we hit a bug.So Kiddies, get ready for some subversion happening soon, things will speed up a lot now in our development thanks to this.

Greetings,

You hit a bug that another project hit, due to the dump file
size. I’ve fixed that bug and pushed it out. I am manually
running the import now, and don’t anticipate any further
issues, so am closing this ticket out. I suspect this import
will be completed in an hour or so (if not much sooner).

Thank you,

David Burley

See the whole support conversation (Gotta have a SF.net session open to be able to read it)

How do you like the new Frostwire.com?

FrostWire.com got a plastic surgery done!

We hope this new and evolving version of the site will be appreciated by you. We’re trying to make it as simple, clean and easy to use as we can.

It’s still evolving, I know there’s some content missing, but for now we’re focusing on the most important thing, making the installers available on 1 click.

If you have any comments, they’re welcome, you can write here in this blog, or you can talk about it on the forums, there’s a lot more to come

We’ll be adding important sections to it, also we’ll be doing a facelift to the forums and this blog so that everything looks the same.

Stay tuned to this blog, as a tip, you might want to suscribe this RSS feed to your iTunes.

PS: Debian users, sorry for removing the Debian logo and placing the Ubuntu one, but given the stats, and the fact that we know that Debian users can read, we placed the Ubuntu logo there for the massive amount of Ubuntu users hitting the site., having received several comments we’ll figure out a way to not make other distro’s left out.

90% to subversion

We have sucessfully converted our CVS repository to Subversion on a local machine, however the conversion process fails on sourceforge.net servers, it seems that now they’ll need to take manual actions in order to import our cvs2svn dump in their subversion server. You can see the status of the sourceforge support request if you’re interested in using the subversion repository once it’s ready.
